Some bad news guys, EigenLayer’s X account got hacked and they shared a phony airdrop campaign through their social account.
On October 18, EigenLayer posted about an airdrop campaign for those who had qualified for the previous one.
But this wasn’t a legit campaign. Anyone who tried to claim from the airdrop got sent to a dodgy link that has nothing to do with the restaking protocol. They sneakily took down the X post a few minutes after posting it, which might mean the hackers no longer have control over the protocol’s account.
This crypto investigator dude called ZacXBT was quick to alert people about the scam airdrop link. He posted on Telegram on October 18 saying: “Eigenlayer X/Twitter account is currently compromised do not click any links.”
Considering EigenLayer’s massive fan base, there’s a good chance the malicious link has already had loads of visitors. To put it into context, EigenLayer is like the second biggest player on Ethereum, with over $11.1 billion worth in total value locked in, according to DeFiLlama’s data.
