A bigwig at the UK’s Centre for Blockchain Technologies (CBT) reckons getting academics, law makers and Web3 creators to work together is key to Web3’s success.
Francesco Pierangeli, the deputy director of CBT, shared his thoughts at a workshop in Dubai. He chatted with Cointelegraph about why it’s so crucial for these groups to work together in the crypto world, and how many crypto ideas start out in universities.
Pierangeli, who also teaches at the University of Birmingham, pointed out that lots of technology used in the crypto world was first created in universities. He said: “The whole crypto world is full of ideas that came from universities. Even Bitcoin itself is basically put together from bits of tech that were developed at universities.”
He noted that this was a takeaway from the references in the Bitcoin white paper.
Pierangeli also said that law makers should stop sticking to their own kind and start mixing with other groups in the community.
“We used to just talk to our own kind, like academics with academics, law makers with law makers, doers moaning about the rules but not really coming together,” he said.
The deputy director emphasized that academics should get together with law makers to help them understand the industry better. Having the latest academic research to hand helps law makers get their heads around what universities are up to.
“It’s also a way to get law makers and doers thinking about what might be important in the future,” Pierangeli said.
As for what’s next for the crypto world, Pierangeli is feeling hopeful and positive. He reckons the industry’s already made its mark and is here to stay.
“I’m super upbeat because we’re always out and about. We see loads of smart people working on this tech, especially blockchain. I’ve got complete faith, especially now big companies are getting involved.”
Pierangeli said it’s hard to guess where crypto will be in five or six years, but he’s convinced the upward trend won’t stop. “I can’t see why this positive vibe won’t carry on into the future,” he said.
