Studio369, a company that develops video games, is going ahead and integrating its mech shooter game named “MetalCore” with the Solana blockchain.
Their plan? Supercharge the player experience with real-time transactions. Right now, Solana’s showing it can handle roughly 3,000 transactions every second—that’s massive!
MetalCore will be tapping into what’s called the “GameShift” platform by Solana Labs. This comes packed with a storefront and systems for processing in-game purchases. The game itself is a free-to-play, open-world battleground where players either go head-to-head or take on the game’s enemy AI. Beat an opponent and you could be looking at some pretty sweet loot, which you can trade as Web3 assets.
The gaming developer, Studio369, states that thanks to Solana’s impressive processing power, all in-game interactions involving the blockchain would be nearly instantaneous. They’re also the ones behind the game “Rune II”.
Solana’s blockchain seems to be the hot new spot for a lot of protocols looking to boost their scalability without breaking the bank. Not just in the gaming sphere, but also in the physical infrastructure space. And it’s not just Studio369 making the move.
Previously, in 2023, Helium, a decentralized wireless communications protocol, migrated to Solana. And in April, the Roam network from MetaBlox made the leap, relying on Solana for faster transactions and scalability in their decentralized proof-of-location and WiFi access points.
According to Artemis Terminal, a blockchain data platform, Solana saw a massive rise in active addresses, showcasing over 100 million in early October. That’s a big leap from the 509,000 addresses seen at the start of 2024.
Despite a few hiccups and downtime along the way, Solana is continually working to improve. They are planning to launch the full version of a new upgrade called “Firedancer” by 2025, with scaled-down versions in the works to handle their expanding action.
