Although Web3 gaming has a few hurdles to overcome, it’s an exciting new space that continues to open doors for innovation and growth.
During a recent conference, we had the chance to chat with Pixels CEO Luke Barwikowski and Farcana Founder and CEO Ilman Shazhaev about the current state of Web3 gaming and the potential it holds for gaming companies, despite any hurdles.
Barwikowski revealed in the interview that while there have been considerable accomplishments in the world of Web3 gaming, there’s still much to be done. He highlighted that there are big hurdles, like figuring out real-user identification, prevent bots, and ensuring user quality. He expressed that these issues need to be addressed by Web3 gaming projects.
Moreover, Barwikowski explained how Pixels has been trying to tackle these challenges by introducing systems like reputation, which allocates users “scores” based on their in-game behaviors — effectively tracking their activities and identifying any bot-like patterns.
On the other hand, despite any hurdles, Shazhaev firmly believes there are heaps of opportunities waiting for gaming projects in the Web3 space. Traditional gaming is a tough business, he believes, as it requires building a team, securing funds and marketing the product.
Against this backdrop, he sees the Web3 space as a speedy arena where projects can raise funds, expand their business and market their product much quicker. It’s because of this fast-paced development that Shazhaev’s Web3 shooter game, Farcana, was developed in a significantly shorter timeframe compared to the typical 4-5 years.
