On Nov. 3, Wiz Khalifa’s X account was hacked and a fake memecoin, $WIZ, was promoted to his 35.7 million followers. It seems like popular rapper Wiz Khalifa’s X account got hacked on Nov. 3, when a fake memecoin got posted to his 35.7 million followers. The hackers claimed Wiz was dropping this new coin called $WIZ for all his crypto fans.
The WIZ coin shot up to a worth of $3.4 million within 15 minutes of popping up on meme launchpad pump.fun. But, things crashed pretty fast. Within the next hour, the total worth of WIZ coins dropped to less than $28,000 as early investors started to sell off their stash. Right now, the value of WIZ stands at about $8,400.
Data shows that the top two wallets got more than 155 million WIZ coins at launch for just $19,100 and then sold them to make a profit of $160,000. We still don’t know who was behind this hack job, but blockchain detective, ZachXBT has a theory. Apparently, it could be the same hacker who took over Andy Ayrey’s account (the guy who created Truth Terminal) on Oct. 29.
The claims about WIZ have since been removed, but there’s no news yet on whether Wiz got control back of his account.
And, in case you’re unaware, Ayrey’s account was also hacked last week, on Oct. 29. The hackers used his profile to promote a bunch of fake memecoins and raked in profits of $1.5 million.
For context, Ayrey’s Truth Terminal is an AI bot that’s famous for launching a coin called Goatseus Maximus (GOAT) that once had a total worth of $940 million. Right now, GOAT’s total worth is around $544 million.
