Tech expert Justin Drake proposes that Ethereum could switch from the Beacon chain to a more effective “Beam Chain” to enhance performance. Mentioned at Bangkok’s Devcon event, he suggests this could revolutionize the consensus layer. Drake believes that the Beacon Chain is outdated and notes emerging technologies like Maximum Extractable Value (MEV) and zk-SNARKS that have improved speed, efficiency, and security. He also advises reducing Ethereum stakes from 32 Ether to 1 for better network health. This proposal is not yet accepted but could be the future if others agree. Drake’s proposal only pertains to the consensus layer, thus the term “ETH 3.0” isn’t suitable.

Ever heard of Ethereum’s Beacon Chain? Well, it might be time for a change, according to tech whizz Justin Drake. He’s suggesting Ethereum could be much improved by switching to a snazzy new “Beam Chain.”
This bold idea was raised at the Devcon event in Bangkok. By moving to a Beam Chain, Drake believes Ethereum could get a step closer to the network’s final, shiny design.
Drake’s a smart guy, and he doesn’t think this is as wild as it might first sound. “This may not be so crazy,” he told researchers at the event. “In fact, this could be a genuine opportunity to completely revamp the consensus layer.”
Drake reckons the Beacon Chain is past its prime and hasn’t evolved in five years. In that time, the world of tech has moved on leaps and bounds. New concepts like Maximum Extractable Value (MEV) and innovative tech like zk-SNARKS have emerged, boosting things like speed, efficiency, and security for all of us cyber heads.
But how about if you want to stake Ethereum? Drake’s got thoughts on that too. He believes the current rules are broken, and that reducing the amount of Ether needed to become a validator from 32 to just 1 could drastically improve the network’s health.
Please note, this is all Drake’s proposal for now. He believes it’s a cracking idea, but it’ll only become the future if others agree.
Although the term “ETH 3.0” has been thrown around on social media, Drake doesn’t think it’s fitting because his proposal only covers the consensus layer.
So, next time you’re geeking out over Ethereum, remember Drake’s idea. Maybe the future of Ethereum is a Beam Chain, not a Beacon.
