30s Summary
Avery Ching, Co-Founder and CTO of Aptos, believes that blockchain technology can be instrumental in managing content used for AI training. He articulated this at the India Blockchain Week 2024 event, where he explained how blockchain could provide more control and transparency over the data feed to AI models. Despite the scalability challenges it could pose for platforms like Facebook, Ching and Aptos remain advocates of this application in their blockchain network, seeing it as a natural fit for content control as AI continues to evolve.

Avery Ching, Co-Founder and CTO of Aptos, says blockchain tech is perfect for deciding whether AI can use certain content for its training. Ching expressed this when he spoke at India Blockchain Week 2024, discussing how blockchain can let us have more control over AI training.
The Aptos Co-Founder mentioned blockchain is a clear way to identify whether specific content can be used for training AI. Avery Ching said that while AI and blockchain are often over-hyped today, what’s really interesting is the kind of data used to train AI models.
He used a conference as an example, pointing out that things like video footage or written articles from the event could be used to train AI. With something like blockchain, you can find a way to control if people are okay with their content being used by the AI.
Ching used to work at Meta and he gets that testing this on massive social platforms like Facebook – where billions of pieces of content are made every day – could be challenging. When you’re dealing with so much data, allowing each piece to be controlled by blockchain permissions could involve a lot of transactions and costs.
Regardless of these challenges, Aptos is still keen on supporting this kind of use case in its blockchain network. Ching sees blockchain as a natural place to control how content is used by AI as it continues to grow and develop.
