Solana’s decentralized apps, also known as DApps, saw a big jump in popularity in November, largely thanks to memecoin launchpad Pump.fun and Solana’s decentralized finance offerings.
Research company Syndica revealed that DApps on Solana managed to pull in a whopping $365 million in November. A big chunk of that came from Pump.fun, the first Solana DApp to rake in more than $100 million in a single month.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Pump.fun. It ran into a bit of controversy over some content that was shared on its live streaming feature, leading them to shut the feature down for the time being. This resulted in a significant drop in weekly income – about 66% – which fell from $33.83 million to $11.31 million in the last week of November.
A couple of other key players also contributed to Solana’s DApp earnings – the token discovery platform Photon and decentralized exchange, Raydium.
In 2024, memecoin DApps pulled in the most money among all DApp categories on Solana. Memecoin DApps grabbed a cool $509 million, and Telegram bots followed with $300 million. DEXs meanwhile brought in $141 million over the year.
The money made from memecoin DApps in 2024 dwarfed the income from the previous year. Back in January, memecoin apps on Solana only managed around $600,000. Fast forward to November and that figure had rocketed to $183 million.
Breaking down Solana’s overall DApp earnings in 2024, 83.7% came from DeFi, with wallets making up 9.6%. The remaining chunk – 6.5% – was generated through infrastructure, non-fungible tokens, and gaming applications.
