Elizabeth Warren, who isn’t a fan of cryptocurrency, just won her Massachusetts senate seat, beating out John Deaton — a Republican who’s pretty pro-crypto. Warren’s victory wasn’t much of a surprise, considering she nabbed a whopping 74% of approximately 145,000 votes, according to info from the Associated Press.
Running against Warren, Deaton didn’t have a great shot from the get-go. Warren has been in the US Senate since 2013 and she led Deaton by 20 to 30 percentage points in most of the pre-vote polls.
Deaton is a pretty big name in the crypto world and is well known as a crypto lawyer. He has been fighting for XRP token holders in Ripple’s ongoing legal drama with the Securities and Exchange Commission. He also managed to get some major support. Gemini co-founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss and Ripple provided $2 million in funding for his campaign.
With this win, Warren is starting her third term in the US Senate. The Associated Press also reported a win for the Democrats in Massachusetts, as Kamala Harris secured 11 electoral college votes.
