People are getting really interested in XRP again, and everyone’s keen for the launch of the new Ripple USD (RLUSD) stablecoin. This sparked some serious activity for Xaman, a wallet designed specially for the XRP Ledger.
Xaman has seen a whopping 250% jump in weekly users since summer with a record 212,000 active users last week, so revealed Robert Kiuru, the big cheese over at Xaman.
This massive surge in Xaman users shows a fresh wave of excitement about the XRP Ledger, especially with XRP’s recent price boom and the upcoming Ripple USD (RLUSD) stablecoin launch.
Xaman kicked things off in March 2020. It used to go by the name Xumm, and got an investment nudge from Ripple’s investment crew Xpring, which now goes by the name Ripplex since rebranding in October 2020.
A good 80,000 new users hopped on the Xaman train riding the wave of the XRP rally. Back in December 2023, Xaman had around 80,000 active weekly users, but this shrunk to 60,000 users during the summer. The recent surge was all down to 80,000 new users joining the party and old users coming back. The XRP price spike and RLUSD launch stirred up most of the interest, with 90% of the surge being credited to these factors, Kiuru stated.
Xaman got a new look when it switched from Xumm in May 2023. It’s a self-custodial wallet and you can easily get your money in or out through platforms like Uphold’s Topper. It uses a different blockchain called the Xahau Network, an evolution of the XRPL, to support smart contracts, explained Kiuru. These smart contracts have specially designed features for developers and users, a real game-changer.
Xaman even scored indirect investment from Ripple in 2019 and 2020. It had backing from Ripple’s investment arm Ripplex, which used to be known as Xpring. This saw Xaman become one of the first to get a grant from Ripple. The wallet started life as Xumm, created by top Ripple developer Wietse Wind, the brains behind XRP apps XRParrot and XRPTipBot.
