Elon Musk is pretty big on shaking things up, as you probably know. But did you know he went to bat for Donald Trump at a public event on October 17? This comes after Musk in the past showed some support for Trump’s candidacy.
Picture this: Musk standing up in a high school auditorium in the ‘burbs of Philly, all eyes on him, his first solo gig since being part of Trump’s team. His main pitch – Trump’s the best choice if you care about your wallet.
Musk chatted about a lot of stuff like the US debt, concerns about voting issues, border issues, and, of course, free speech. There were questions about Musk maybe leading a thing called the Department of Government Efficiency (or DOGE, no not that DOGE!), should Trump win. But, true to his style, Musk didn’t exactly say he would.
When asked about the proposed DOGE department, Musk basically said “Sure thing, DOGE” but didn’t say he’d be the honcho. Instead, he said the country’s money issues are because the government is splurging left, right and center, a big no-no in his book.
Previously, Trump had suggested that Musk could be an advisor if he won the election. Musk responded with a post that some folks thought confirmed he would join Trump’s team. He put out a picture of himself like he was the head of the proposed DOGE, saying “I am willing to serve.” So, it’s not clear what ‘service’ means here – advising Trump or something more?
Even before the DOGE post, Musk started with a Super PAC (think: fundraising for a political cause) named America PAC. The goal? Get 800,000 new voters on board, especially in strategic locations. And it’s all pro-Trump. Musk even threw in a cool $75 million into the PAC.
Right now, it’s all up in the air though. Apart from his post and his efforts for the Trump campaign, we’ve got no official news if the world’s richest dude will take the leap into politics. However, there’s a whole lot of stakeholders in Musk’s many tech companies who might not be too happy with the idea of Musk dipping his toes into politics.
