Hey folks, Hive Digital, a prominent player in Bitcoin mining is taking things up a notch and setting up shop in Paraguay, making it the fourth country they’re operating in. If you’re into tech, they’ve bagged 6,500 Canaan Avalon A1566 super specialized circuit boards (ASICs) with delivery happening between December and March 2025.
Things got off to a cracking start with 500 new ASICs landing in the second week of November. With four more batches due by the first quarter of 2025, there’s gonna be a pretty beefy increase in Hive Digital’s hash rate, pushing it from 5.6 EH/s to 6 EH/s by March.
Post delivery, Paraguay’s gonna see 30 MW of boosted mining capacity, which should take Hive Digital’s hash rate to a whopping 8 EH/s by the end of the second quarter. The new ASICs are also stepping up the efficiency game, taking it from 22.3 J/th to 20.5 J/th. According to Nangeng Zhang, the big boss of Canaan, Hive Digital is pretty darn good when it comes to making the most of its mining sites.
On top of this, Zhang gave a nod to Hive as an important ally due to their focus on transparency and sustainable practices. Canaan also recently sold 3,800 Avalon A1566I Immersion Cooling Miners to miner CleanSpark, for those curious about their other dealings.
Next up for Hive Digital is a new facility in Paraguay. Once it’s all ready and operational, they’re looking at a 100 MW capacity with an impressive hash rate of 12.5 EH/s and uber efficiency of 17.6 J/th.
Let’s not forget, folks, Hive Digital also has some serious hardware in Canada, Sweden and Iceland. After Ethereum switched up their platform format, Hive Digital pivoted and began using Nvidia graphics processing units (GPUs) for artificial intelligence work. They’re now running around 38,000 of these GPUs. Exciting times ahead for Hive Digital!
