The TON blockchain, first started by Telegram, has quickly grown into a super lively network. One of the cool new things to come out of it is Catizen, a crypto game that got super popular. Now, Catizen’s changing things up and becoming a kind of hub for all things web3 applications.
Tim Wong, the big cheese at the Catizen Foundation, recently had a chat about how Catizen is shifting gears and becoming a platform for publishing games within the Telegram network. He also filled us in on some new features to look out for.
When asked about how Telegram and TON are helping drive the adoption of web3, Tim points out the fact that Telegram reached a whopping 950 million active users a month. With numbers like those, Telegram is a great pipeline for the web3 world. He mentions how excited he is that the Catizen project has been such a hit, crediting its design as the main reason for its virality.
Originally just a game, Catizen is moving into becoming a whole ecosystem of web3 content. Keen to make this a long-term project, they’re working on switching things up from a single game to a center for “mini apps”, and then eventually into a full-on platform for web3 applications.
To make the move towards becoming a platform more user-friendly for games, Catizen made four big plans: they developed their own HTML5 game engine and SDK, they launched a game center, developed a unified user account system, and opened a staking center called Meow Earn where users get rewarded for participating.
Aside from that, Catizen also has plans to bring great content from WeChat Mini Games to Telegram and web3, with the intention of making things a bit easier for WeChat developers to transition to the Telegram network, giving their platform a boost in the process.
This shift is bound to have a cool new impact on Catizen’s approach to business. Tim explains their vision to make Catizen an app platform with a cat theme. They kickstarted things with a user-friendly game to introduce users to web3 wallets and onchain interactions, and from there they took steps towards launching an App Center, which boosted their revenue and allowed them to attract WeChat mini-games to Telegram.
In the future, they’re planning on using the airdrop effect of their CATI token to attract and convert new users into web3 consumers. They’re forecasting big revenue numbers for the Telegram Mini Apps ecosystem, and Catizen aims to grab a big chunk of that, making it a leader in the mini-game market.
While Catizen started out as just a game, it got super popular and viral in the web3 community. Since its official launch, Catizen attracted 41 million users in only six months, received over 20 million monthly active users and 8 million daily active users at its peak.
Looking ahead, we can expect some exciting moves from the Catizen ecosystem. Tim Wong lays out the goal for the coming year to establish Catizen as a wide-reaching platform that combines gaming, short dramas, trading, and artificial intelligence. This will be the basis for planning to launch an e-commerce platform in 2025. With new users coming in from their next game, Bombie, and their mini-app Vanilla Finance, they’ve got some big plans for growth. On top of that, they’re working on two more mini-games with airdrop mechanisms, Lucky Galaxy and Memeblock.
With all these changes, it’s no wonder Catizen is eyeing up the crown in the world of web3 entertainment. They see a strong future in combining quality content from traditional and new sources, creating unique experiences for users and paving the way for a future that’s powered by web3.
