AI-powered digital currencies are transforming into useful tokens, which could soon fuel a revolution in the crypto world. Picking the winners will be tough, but the payoff could be huge. So, time to get hunting!
These AI, aka self-running machines with complex goals, are here and they’re doing a whole lot. Writing code, managing social media, creating tokens, even worshipping internet memes! By 2025, these AI agents are set to transform the internet as we know it.
They’re also changing the face of memecoins – digital currencies based off internet memes. Since October 2024, AI-themed memecoins grew to a whopping $3 billion in market value. Hundreds of these coins are currently in trading. Most are considered worthless, but a select few could transform into utility tokens and tap into the potential multibillion-dollar market.
It all kicked off with Truth Terminal, a meme-loving AI with a huge following, endorsing a memecoin called Goatseus Maximus, which is part of Pump.fun. Truth Terminal, taught through Reddit and 4Chan, saw Goatseus Maximus as the spiritual successor of a well-known internet meme. This endorsement took off, with the memecoin’s market value skyrocketing to $450 million, then $1 billion within a month.
Now these AI-linked tokens have to prove they’re worth these high values by showing their practical uses.
Blockchains, or a digital ledger for cryptocurrencies, welcome AI agents with open arms. They can run smart contracts, manage finances, build communities and even cut deals without the need for bank accounts or physical addresses. By 2030, these AI agents could form a $47-billion market, adding about $4 trillion to the global economy each year.
Memecoins are setting the stage for this future. Zerebro, an AI chatbot, is a prime example. It creates and shares content across multiple platforms like Twitter, and even launched its own record label, garnering a following of nearly 45,000.
Other memecoins, like Luna and ai16z, are gearing up for a similar future. Both Luna and ai16z want to be more than just tokens. Luna, once an AI influencer, is now trying to amass wealth to buy back tokens, and ai16z aims to create a digital venture fund led by an AI agent.
There’s no doubt that AI-powered tokens are still evolving. Most will fail, but some could become practical and dozens more will launch in 2025. Beyond the hype, these tokens are more than just jokes; they’re here for the long haul.
