Hey guys, this week in our update we’re chatting about how non-fungible token (NFT) sales are bouncing back big time with a 94% surge week-on-week. Also, did you hear about McDonald’s teaming up with an NFT project called Doodles for their online promotion called “GM Spread Joy?” Check this out too – Shaquille O’Neal just settled a legal case involving Astral NFTs for $11 million!
Sales of NFTs are doing a serious comeback as Bitcoin and other cryptos are on a roll. Just from the week leading to Nov. 17, these digital goodies surged by 94%, literally hitting a sales volume of $181 million across different blockchains.
Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Solana are at the forefront of this surge. Last week, Ethereum clocked an NFT sales volume of $67 million and Bitcoin and Solana were not too far behind with $60 million and $26 million respectively.
Hold tight though, in one week the average value of an NFT deal leaped from $71.11 to $133.08.
Rolling on to McDo’s and Doodles – they’ve joined forces for a campaign called “GM Spread Joy” featuring limited-edition McCafé x Doodles Holiday cups. If you buy a cup, you can win animated content and digital doodads on the McDonald’s app. They chose Doodles, in their own words, because it’s a “game-changer of the cultural landscape”.
Tariq Hassan, McDonald’s marketing guru also bigged up Doodles, saying that it’s more than just digital assets and is an “entertainment brand in itself with a fearless community.”
Over in the world of sports, ex-NBA player Shaquille O’Neal has just dished out $11 million to settle a legal tangle in exchange for ditching a lawsuit. The source of the dispute was the Astrals NFT project that featured 10,000 pieces of digital art by Damien Guimoneau. But, after the value of those NFTs dropped, the purchasers were feeling the pinch. Shaq says he hasn’t given up on the project, but decided to pay up and settle the lawsuit.
That’s it for our round-up, thanks for coming along for the ride! See you next Wednesday for more of the latest chit-chat on NFTs.
