The blockchain detective ZachXBT reckons a former Aussie pro Fortnite player, who also dabbles in blockchain security, is mixed up in some joke cryptocurrency scams. He thinks the bloke, known as ‘Serpent’, has nicked around $3.5 million.
ZachXBT uncovered that Serpent, who was booted from esports team ‘Overtime’ last year for allegedly cheating, seems to be connected to a bunch of scams related to something called Pump.fun memecoin. These scams have been linked to hacked social media accounts.
Now, this is where it gets crazy, even McDonald’s, Usher, Wiz Khalifa, and a few others had their accounts compromised, resulting in a hefty loss of over $3.5M via these funny-money coins.
ZachXBT figured out that one of Serpent’s projects, ironically named “ERROR”, links directly to these account takeovers. Apparently, Serpent was also using the stolen cash at online casinos, which is pretty nuts if true.
When ZachXBT went public with his findings, Serpent seemed to freak and started erase his online trail.
In a weird twist, earlier this year, Serpent claimed to be a cybersecurity expert on his now-deleted account. He even posted guides about how to avoid crypto scams. Who knows if this is all true or not, but as they always say, truth can be stranger than fiction!
